Arcadia roof panel installation: follow the steel-roof sequence
The Arcadia 12×9.5 has steel roof panels on cedar framing, not cedar roof boards or shingles meeting at a peaked ridge. The official model description identifies a sloped steel roof. Start with that exact roof system rather than adapting generic shingle, ridge-cap or roof-sealing advice.
Read the panel steps before lifting anything
The model 2306073B manual labels the roof pieces and shows their orientation, overlaps, fastener locations and trim order. Its roof instructions recommend gloves for handling the steel, call for removing the blue protective film, and explicitly prohibit getting onto the roof to attach screws.
Lay out the required parts for the next step on a protected surface. Identify front and back from the diagram and check the supporting frame before fitting panels. If a piece does not align, revisit the part number, orientation and earlier assembly rather than enlarging holes or cutting the sheet to force a fit.
Avoid generic fixes that change the roof system
- Fasteners: use the exact specified type and placement; a screw labeled exterior grade is not automatically an equivalent.
- Sequence: follow the manual’s staged fastening and trim steps rather than tightening every visible hole immediately.
- Seams: do not add a blanket bead of sealant or butyl tape to every overlap unless the manufacturer specifies it for that connection.
- Access: arrange stable, suitable access equipment and enough help to control the pieces without standing on the roof.
Keep panels supported and protected from wind while handling them. Pause if conditions make positioning difficult. The nominal gazebo size and a short build video do not establish a safe lifting plan for your crew.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
Check the finished roof against the drawings
Before clearing the site, check that the required roof fasteners and trim are installed and that protective film has been removed as instructed. Investigate a gap or leak through the model’s assembly details and manufacturer support instead of adding improvised patches. Preston’s Arcadia footage provides context, but it does not replace the current roof-panel instructions.
