Outdoor kitchen ideas that work around the Saxony XL layout
Start with a simple cooking-and-serving plan before committing to a built-in kitchen. The useful question is what can fit around the Saxony XL’s supplied components while retaining appliance clearances and access.
Idea 1: separate cooking from serving
Map the permitted appliance position first and use an independent serving cart outside its clearance area. Place guest seating where people do not have to pass behind the cook or reach across hot equipment.
Idea 2: make use of the supplied counters
The Saxony XL product information lists two integrated side counters. Try these as prep and serving surfaces before designing a continuous counter run. Check food-contact and cleaning requirements for any removable work surface you add.
Idea 3: put large storage outside the shelter
An independently supported outdoor cabinet or refrigerator can preserve space inside. Follow that appliance’s ventilation, weather-exposure and electrical requirements. Do not assume a compact fridge can be boxed into an unventilated cabinet.
Draw the limits before buying extras
Use the XL drawings for posts and counters, then add appliances with lids and doors open. Include all restrictions on covered use. Do not attach heavy countertops, cabinets, heaters or extraction equipment to the gazebo unless the manufacturers approve the arrangement.
Plan utilities separately
Have qualified tradespeople assess permanent electrical, gas or plumbing work. The kit’s PowerPort is a convenience accessory, not a complete outdoor-kitchen supply design.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
Keep the seasonal plan realistic
Closing in the sides or hanging a heater changes the layout and safety questions. Reassess with the equipment manufacturers before making either change. A cooking setup that works in an open summer arrangement should not be assumed suitable after screens or walls are added.
