Installing the Barrington’s supplied metal roof
The Barrington 12×12 is supplied with a steel roof. Start with its numbered panels, brackets and fasteners rather than buying a generic metal-roof conversion kit.
Check the kit before lifting panels
Match the model number on the box to the assembly manual linked from the manufacturer’s 12×12 Barrington page. Inventory each roof component and hardware bag, then check the frame measurements against the manual before moving to the roof stages.
- Separate panels and trims by part number.
- Read the panel orientation and overlap diagrams in sequence.
- Use the fastener specified for each connection.
- Resolve bent panels or missing hardware before assembly.
Keep the factory roof system intact
Adding underlayment, sistering rafters, drilling new screw patterns or substituting standing-seam panels changes the supplied design. The manufacturer’s general information booklet warns that modifications can compromise structural integrity. Ask Backyard Discovery about a replacement component or proposed alteration before changing it.
Plan handling and access
Arrange the helpers, safe access equipment and clear working area called for by your manual. Do not use the roof as a work platform or treat an Arcadia assembly video as a staffing or time estimate for a Barrington roof.
Before considering the roof finished
Compare panel placement, trim, connections and final anchoring with the exact assembly instructions. Keep the manual and part numbers for future repairs; a leaking connection is a reason to identify the cause, not to cover every seam with generic sealant.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
