Prepare an electrical plan before altering the gazebo
Adding power starts with the equipment you want to use, the available supply and the route between them. Have a qualified electrician assess those together before buying cable or cutting into the frame.
Write down the intended loads
- List lights, speakers, refrigeration and any other equipment.
- Record the ratings on their labels.
- Identify which devices may run at the same time.
- Show proposed outlet locations on a simple site sketch.
Bring the gazebo documents to the assessment
The Arcadia 12×9.5 manual identifies the kit and its assembly details. It also directs owners to the separate PowerPort instructions. An included outlet accessory still needs a suitable source of power and must be used within its own limits.
Leave the wiring design to the site assessment
The electrician should determine supply capacity, protection, installation method and any permits needed. Avoid copying a trench depth, cable type or breaker size from a generic gazebo article: those details depend on the actual installation.
Keep the frame intact
Do not notch structural members or drill concealed cable routes on the assumption that electrical approval also approves the gazebo modification. Resolve mounting and routing with the gazebo manufacturer. If a temporary supply is considered, follow the equipment instructions and extension-cord safety guidance; a cord is not a substitute for permanent wiring.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
