Barrington versus a specific Costco cedar gazebo
Costco is a retailer, so compare the Barrington with a named kit rather than a generic “Costco gazebo.” One documented example is Yardistry’s 12×14 cedar gazebo, model YM12941, listed by Costco.
Compare the actual materials
The Barrington 14×12 listing describes cedar with a steel roof. The Costco YM12941 listing describes a cedar gazebo with an aluminum roof. That distinction does not establish a winner for every site, and neither comparison supports a claim that Costco kits use inferior wood or less organized hardware.
Read the installation documents
The Yardistry YM12941 manual supplies post mounts but requires permanent mounting hardware to be purchased separately. Compare that requirement with the Barrington’s matching manual and your proposed support surface.
Compare the complete offer
- Use inside openings and post positions to test furniture fit.
- Include foundation and anchoring costs.
- Check what delivery and assembly actually cover.
- Compare warranty coverage, exclusions and claim procedures.
- Confirm availability for the exact model and destination.
Make the decision on the limiting requirement
A roof material, brand name or promotional price cannot compensate for a poor fit. Choose the documented layout and installation plan that work for the site, then compare total quotes. The Arcadia build below is not a timed comparison of either kit.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
