Saxony Grill Gazebo Heat Clearance & Safety Notes

Saxony heat-clearance checklist: use the exact grill requirements

There is no single side or overhead distance that makes every grill safe beneath a Saxony gazebo. Read the appliance manual first: a prohibition on overhead combustible construction cannot be replaced by a guessed clearance.

Record the requirements before moving equipment

  • Whether covered use is allowed at all.
  • Required separation from combustible surfaces on each side and overhead.
  • Restrictions for decks, walls, eaves and enclosed areas.
  • Space needed for lids, doors, shelves, fuel access and maintenance.

Identify the combustible parts

The Saxony XL has cedar posts and roof framing even though its roof covering is steel. Treat wood, stored equipment and furnishings according to the grill’s instructions. A metal roof does not turn the whole structure into a noncombustible enclosure.

Check the real layout

Compare the Saxony XL assembly drawings with the appliance’s dimensions and required clearances. For an example of why the manual matters, Weber’s outdoor-use guidance bars use beneath overhead combustible construction. Ask your own appliance maker about uncertainty before operating it.

Do not use accessories to bypass a restriction

A mat, homemade heat shield, fan, alarm or raised chimney does not establish that a prohibited location has become acceptable. Do not attach a shield to a post or alter the roof to make a grill fit without appropriate manufacturer approval and professional assessment.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K

Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.

In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.

If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.

Before the first cook

Complete the gazebo’s required anchoring, confirm the appliance location is permitted, and follow its inspection, fuel and operating instructions. Keep escape and service access clear. If the requirements cannot be met under the roof, use a suitable location outside it.
