Unboxing an Arcadia gazebo: count first, assemble later
Unboxing is easier when you know which model is arriving and have room to sort its components. For the Arcadia 12×9.5, start with the order’s model number and the manufacturer’s current package details. That page lists three cartons, with individual weights of approximately 152 to 214 pounds. These are substantial packages, not boxes to assume one person can carry safely.
Prepare a receiving and sorting area
Confirm where your seller’s delivery service will leave the shipment and how it will reach the assembly site. Keep an unobstructed route and arrange suitable help or handling equipment. Have a dry, clean area ready so labels, finished wood and roof panels stay visible and protected while you inventory them.
- Count the cartons against the shipment paperwork and photograph damaged packaging before unpacking.
- Keep the model label, receipt and delivery record together.
- Open cartons carefully without cutting into the pieces immediately below the packaging.
Sort by part identity, not assumed assembly order
The Arcadia assembly manual specifically says cartons are not organized by board number. Group matching stamped wood-part numbers together, and use a separate table for hardware. Keep bags labeled and compare both part numbers and quantities with the inventory; packaging order is not the building sequence.
Inspect the steel roof pieces as well as the wood. If a part is damaged or missing, retain its packaging information and contact support before modifying it or substituting a similar-looking fastener. Do not start a section that depends on an unresolved part.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
Make unboxing a separate checkpoint
A successful inventory ends with verified parts, a clear workspace and an understood assembly plan. It does not guarantee that construction will finish that evening. Keep the packaging until the inventory is reconciled, and schedule the build around the manual, available helpers and a completed foundation. Preston’s video shows one installation, not a universal unpacking or lifting plan.
