Can two people build an Arcadia in one evening?
Preston and his brother’s documented Arcadia 12×9.5 build is one example of a single-evening installation. It does not establish a repeatable completion time for every household, and it is not a controlled assembly comparison. Plan your own build from the exact kit, the completed foundation and the help required at each stage.
Separate the build from the work before it
Delivery, unpacking, missing-part resolution and foundation work can all happen before the visible assembly begins. A video does not tell you that every site can be prepared in an hour. The Arcadia manual requires a square, level supporting installation and provides the model’s anchoring layout. Resolve the foundation and local approval requirements before scheduling a short assembly window.
Read through the roof steps in advance. A two-person example is not permission to attempt a lift that your helpers cannot control, nor to improvise access equipment. Arrange additional qualified help when the procedure, piece size or working position calls for it.
Use milestones instead of an invented hourly schedule
- Ready to start: complete inventory, suitable foundation, correct tools and clear working area.
- Ready for the roof: the frame has reached the stage specified by the manual, with the required alignment and connections checked.
- Ready for use: roof, trim and anchoring are complete and the final inspection is finished.
The manufacturer’s product page identifies pre-cut and pre-drilled pieces and BILT guidance. These are useful preparation aids, not a promise of effortless lifting or a particular number of working hours. Stop and resolve a mismatched part or unclear step rather than rushing to meet an evening deadline.

Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
What the video can establish
Use the footage to understand the character of this particular project and the sequence shown. Use the matching instructions for the work itself. If time, tools or available help are tight, spread the project over a suitable schedule or arrange installation assistance. A finished, correctly installed gazebo matters more than reproducing someone else’s completion time.
