Saxony ventilation planning starts with the appliance manual
Open sides alone do not establish safe ventilation for a grill or smoker. Before orienting the gazebo for a breeze, confirm that your exact appliance permits use beneath the proposed structure.
Distinguish airflow from permission to cook
For example, Weber’s published outdoor-use guidance prohibits use beneath overhead combustible construction. Cedar rafters remain combustible under a metal roof. More air movement, a larger side gap or a fan does not override an appliance restriction.
Plan the site before installation
- Read all instructions about overhead construction and nearby combustible surfaces.
- Keep the required area free of curtains, stored fuel, furniture and other obstructions.
- Consider nearby doors, windows and occupied areas when assessing where exhaust may travel.
- Check the intended location with the appliance manufacturer if the manual leaves it unclear.
Do not improvise exhaust equipment
A chimney extension, roof penetration, extractor or improvised metal back panel can change how equipment behaves and affect the gazebo structure. Use only an installation expressly permitted for the equipment and structure. Mesh panels are not a verified ventilation solution.
What the Saxony documents can tell you
The Saxony XL drawings show the frame and counter layout. Compare that geometry with the appliance’s requirements; do not infer a safe cooking arrangement from roof shape or a staged product photograph.

Keep combustion outdoors and in open air
The CPSC charcoal safety guide warns that burning charcoal produces carbon monoxide, which cannot be judged by smell. Never use a charcoal grill in an enclosed space. An alarm or the absence of visible smoke cannot make an otherwise prohibited location suitable.
