Barrington 24×12 review: compare the drawings with your yard
The Barrington 24×12 is a large cedar gazebo/carport to consider for a long patio or outdoor living area. This is a document-based buying guide, not a report of a Barrington build or weather test.
Check the actual model and roof
The current manufacturer listing identifies model 2406032 with a galvanized steel hip roof. It is not a shingle-ready roof kit. Confirm the retailer’s model and included components before budgeting for extras.
Separate roof coverage from usable space
Use the assembly and anchoring drawings to place the supports on a scaled plan. Add furniture with chairs pulled out, doorways and walking routes. The exterior dimensions do not describe an empty rectangle between the posts.
Advantages and tradeoffs
- A long covered area can support separate dining and seating zones when their measured layouts fit.
- The supplied roof and pre-cut components avoid designing a roof from scratch.
- The larger installation needs delivery access, staging room, suitable supports and help with assembly.
- Cedar and metal finishes still require care; neither material establishes a guaranteed service life.
Plan the structure as supplied
Follow the exact foundation and anchoring instructions. Do not change the roof pitch, add braces or substitute roofing to address local weather without manufacturer and appropriate professional guidance. A larger kit is not automatically stronger in every loading condition.

About the video: This is an Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ build, a different model. Its timeline does not establish Barrington assembly time or performance.
Watch a Real Backyard Discovery Gazebo Build in 4K
Before you commit to a gazebo, it helps to see one go together in the real world. Preston and his brother built a Backyard Discovery Arcadia 12′ x 9.5′ cedar gazebo in a single evening, start to finish.
In the 4K video below, you can see how the pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar pieces fit together, how the hardware is organized, and how manageable the process is for just two people. The fresh cedar smell, solid posts, and overall build quality are a big part of why we like Backyard Discovery so much.
If you want to see more photos and details from this exact build, Preston also wrote about the process on his personal site: PrestonShamblen.com/backyard-discovery-arcadia-gazebo-setup. It includes tips, notes, and behind-the-scenes details from the same evening.
Before deciding
Compare the total installed cost with a smaller model that meets the same layout needs. The 20×12 changes the nominal length, not the nominal 12-foot depth. Check the actual drawings rather than assuming every size has identical post spacing or components.
